Legendary Liverpool career midfielder, Steven Gerrard, scored a stunning goal against Olympiakos - a late strike in the 2005 Champions League.
Gerrard will have the opportunity to repeat his glorious performance against the Greek side in a testimonial on August 3, the only pre-season game that will be played at home at Anfield.
Stevie G is a natural central midfielder who can play in other positions with equal skill. He wears the No.8 jersey for the Reds and No.4 for England.
Gerrard was a Liverpool fan since childhood and joined his beloved club as a trainee when he was a young lad and has spent his entire career at Liverpool.
FC Liverpool superstar SGerrard was born on 30th May, 1980 in Whiston, Merseyside, not far from Liverpool. Gerrard attended the Cardinal Heenan Catholic high school in West Derby, Liverpool. Steven married Alex Curran on June 16, 2007, and the couple have two daughters, Lily-Ella and Lexie.
Gerrard, a natural footballer, made his debut as a substitute for Norwegian Vegard Heggem against Blackburn on 30th November 1998. His first full debut was against Celta Vigo in the UEFA Cup.
He debuted for England against Ukraine at Wembley in May 2000. His first goal for England being a 25 yard shot in The Three Lions’ 5-1 defeat of Germany in September 2001. Gerrard missed the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan with a groin injury. He first captained England against Sweden in 2004.
Gerrard was given the Liverpool captain’s armband first in 2003 by Gerard Houllier and has captained the Reds regularly ever since.
Considered as Liverpool’s prized asset by many, Gerrard is the pivot around which the Merseysiders revolve and his combination with Fernando Torres saw the latter score over 20 goals in his debut season.
Gerrard is regarded as one of the best midfielders in England football history.
Gerrard’s awards include – the PFA Young Player of the Year 2001, MVP in the Champions League in 2004-05 and PFA Player of the Year 2006.
In December 2006, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to the game.
